
The Tower of London and Tower Bridge
Head east along the Thames, to explore the Medieval world of the Tower of London, The kids will love it and you’ll get some great photos. Then, cross the river and walk back along the quays for stunning views of the Tower of London and the high-rise skyline of the City.
The Tower of London
For something a bit different and to see the sights along the river, why not take a river bus to Tower Pier which drops you in front of the The Tower of London? You can use contactless or your Oyster card to pay, so it’s great value, and you get a river cruise at a budget price. If you prefer the tube, the nearest one is Tower Hill.
There are plenty of good photo opportunities in the grounds of the Tower of London and, once inside, you can gawp at the over-the-top magnificence of the crown jewels, enjoy an interactive adventure and even meet the ravens. It's great for kids and they'll learn plenty of history as well as having fun in a real castle.
When you’ve finished at the Tower, you may be feeling a bit peckish. Get away from the crowds and walk over to St Katherine’s dock for lunch by the water.
Riverside walks and fabulous views
Take a stroll across Tower Bridge, it lifts three times a day so you may even see it open up to let boats past. Then, walk back west along the river front, you’ll get fantastic views of the bridge, the Tower of London and the ultra-modern skyscrapers of the City of London, including the iconic Walkie Talkie building and the Gherkin.
Keep walking and you’ll see the HMS Belfast in the river up ahead, a WW2 warship permanently moored on the Thames. It is now a museum, complete with naval guns, for military enthusiasts.
When you run out of steam, you can pick up a river bus back to the center from London Bridge City Pier.
