Take a walk around Saint-Germain-des-Prés, stopping for coffee at the Café de Flore, formerly the hang out of French existentialist writer, Jean- Paul Sartre, and his avant-garde contemporaries Picasso, Juliette Greco and Georges Brassens.

The faces may have changed, but this area is still the place to hang out and people watch. Head to La cerise sur le chapeaux (the cherry on the hat) and customise yourself some hipster headgear, then wander over to Mamie Gateaux and calm your existentialist angst with tea and cakes. After tea, take a stroll around the Jardin du Luxembourg and watch the world saunter by.
