No direct trains from the Netherlands to London from summer 2024 until early 2025


From 15 June until early 2025, we won’t be running any direct trains from Amsterdam and Rotterdam to London due to major track works at Amsterdam Centraal station.​

Don't worry you can still travel from the Netherlands to London by taking the Eurostar to Brussels-Midi/Zuid​, where you'll go through border control and then catch the train to London.

Our direct trains will be back up and running early next year, with a bigger terminal for an even better travel experience.

Travel by train from Amsterdam to London via Brussels

For a smart journey from Amsterdam to London, hop on board the Eurostar. Whizz through three countries in under five hours, and after a quick change in Brussels, you’ll arrive at London St Pancras International, right in the heart of the city.

How do I travel from Amsterdam to London on an indirect train?

Even though our direct service is on pause, you can still get to London by train. From Amsterdam Centraal station take the Eurostar to Brussels-Midi/Zuid, then hop on the train to London St Pancras International. You can book your entire journey on eurostar.com.

Remember to bring your passport, as border checks take place in Brussels before you board the Eurostar to London.

Changing trains in Brussels-Midi/Zuid​

The Eurostar from Amsterdam to Brussels takes just under two hours.

When you arrive in Brussels, follow the signs to the Eurostar departure terminal at platforms 1 and 2.

Simply scan the barcode on your ticket at the Eurostar gates. Keep your passport handy, as you'll need it for security and passport checks. Then, hop on the Eurostar to London.

You'll have about 45 minutes to change trains in Brussels.

Security and passport control in Brussels-Midi/Zuid​

After going through the ticket gates, you'll need to undergo a security check for you and your luggage. Then, your passport will be checked: first by the Belgian authorities and then by the British authorities. If your European passport has a chip, you can scan it at an e-gate.

Arriving at St Pancras International station

Your train will arrive right in the heart of London at St Pancras International, one of the most elegant stations in the world. As border checks take place before departure, you can simply hop off the train and leave the station.

St Pancras International is well connected to Underground lines and buses. There's also a black cab stand right outside and King's Cross station is just across the road if you have a connecting train.

Your journey in the opposite direction

Heading from London to Amsterdam is a breeze - we still run direct trains from London to Amsterdam. In just 3 hours and 52 minutes, you’ll zip from city centre to city centre.​

FAQs

With the direct route temporarily closed, your journey from Amsterdam to London will require a bit more time. ​The shortest leg, from Amsterdam to Brussels, takes approximately 1 hour and 53 minutes.

From Brussels to London, expect around a two-hour journey. For the transfer in Brussels, you'll need about 45 minutes. The trip will be just under five hours in total.

Unlike airlines, there are no hidden costs when travelling by Eurostar. Once you have picked your train tickets, there will be no additional fees for seat selection, advanced booking, or luggage allowance.

Eurostar tickets from Amsterdam to London can be booked up to 180 days in advance, however, there are a few exceptions depending on engineering work or when you book. Have a look at our booking calendar and available days will show in black while the greyed-out dates are not available for sale just yet.

There are no food restrictions, so you’re allowed to bring your own food from home on the Eurostar.


The Eurostar from London to Brussels travels through the Channel Tunnel at a speed of 100 miles per hour (160 km per hour). When the train is outside the tunnel it reaches speeds of 186 miles per hour (300 km per hour). Hold on to your hats!​

Standard adult tickets allow you to bring two pieces of luggage that are up to 85cm long, and one small piece of hand luggage such as a handbag or briefcase. Find out more information about luggage allowances.
