What is interrailing?

Interrailing is a unique experience where you can travel through Europe by train using an international rail pass. Eurail and Interrail global passes let you explore over 40,000 destinations in 33 countries, hopping on and off as many trains as you like, at times that suit you. It’s the most flexible and affordable way to explore Europe.

How does interrailing work?

Eurail passes are sold to customers outside of Europe. Interrail passes are the equivalent product sold to Europeans. Eurail or Interrail Global pass-holders can travel as much as they want on participating European rail networks for a set amount of travel days, ranging from 4 days to a maximum 3 months. And if you are under 27 or over 60 you even get a discount on your pass.

Do you need to reserve trains for interrailing?

Most trains can be boarded by simply showing your Eurail or Interrail Pass on your phone. But for high-speed trains, including Eurostar, you will need to reserve a seat. You’ll be travelling in either Standard or Standard Premier, depending on the class of your Eurail or Interrail pass.

Do Eurail and Interrail Passes work on the Eurostar?

Eurail and Interrail Passes are valid for travel on Eurostar. But you must book and pay to reserve your seat ahead of your departure date. Eurostar Pass-holder seats are subject to availability, so we recommend that you book as soon as you can to avoid disappointment and guarantee your seat and travel dates. Sold out already? You’ll need to buy a full-fare ticket to travel on your preferred train.

Reserving your seat with an interrail pass

To travel with Eurostar using your Interrail pass, you need to book your seat in advance and pay a seat reservation fee. You’ll be travelling in either Standard or Standard Premier, depending on the class of your Interrail pass.

Eurail and Interrail Global Passes are eligible on the following routes:

  • UK-France
  • UK-Belgium
  • UK-Netherlands

Travelling with Eurostar

You must arrive at the station at our recommended arrival time to allow plenty of time to get through border controls and security. One of our team members will check your pass and seat reservation. Once you’re through to the departure lounge, you can relax or do a bit of shopping before it’s time to board.

Once on board, you can sit back and enjoy the journey. Delicious meals, drinks and snacks are available at Café Métropole, our onboard bar buffet, or, if you’re travelling in Standard Premier, a light meal will be served at your seat.

Our newer trains have free Wi-Fi and onboard entertainment, so you can connect with friends, catch up on your emails or watch a Hollywood blockbuster en route.
