Living it up in Paris on a 5-star break

Create the perfect escape with Eurostar

Pure Parisian indulgence

Sometimes you just have to treat yourself and splash out, and what better time to indulge in a bit of luxury than on a short break to the world’s most glamorous city – Paris.

Whether you’re looking for a good deal on a 5-star hotel or the best places to go for some high-end retail therapy, our guide to luxury breaks in Paris has some stylish addresses to help you plan the perfect glam getaway.

Where to stay

Base yourself in one of the high-end arrondissements near the centre so you’re in walking distance of all the most fashionable addresses in town, even in those sky-high Louboutins.

On the Left Bank the 6th and 7th districts are best for Boho chic while, north of the river, the 8th and 16th near the Champs Elysees, and the 9th around Opera and the Grands Boulevards have that glamorous Parisian ‘je ne sais quoi’.

Luxurious experiences to try

Chic shopping

Le Bon Marché, chicest of Parisian department stores, is the French equivalent of Harvey Nicks. Unlike the other big stores, it’s located on the Left Bank on the glamorous Rue de Sevres, so within easy access if you’re staying in the 6th or 7th arrondissements.

Whatever you do, don’t miss La Grande Épicerie, the massive food hall next door to the main shop. There’s a fabulous choice of food and foodie gifts, as well as kitchen equipment, crockery and table settings, everything you need to master 'les arts de la table' like a true Parisian.

Cocktails on the water

Head to one of Paris’ most glamorous boat bars for sundowners on the Seine. Flow is moored on the quays by the Invalides, with fabulous views of the Eiffel Tower, Pont Alexandre III and the Grand Palais on the other side of the river.

Go early for a coupe of Champagne on the roof terrace and stay till late in the club downstairs, dancing the night away with Paris’ coolest crowd.

Have one of everything

You'll definitely need two sweet-toothed gourmands to tackle Carette’s glorious platter of petits fours. From glossy choux to a classic Mont Blanc and seasonal fruit tarts, the bite-sized pastries are a delight to share.

Order a hot chocolate, snuggle up on the heated terrace and look out over Place des Vosges. It’s arguably one of Paris’s prettiest squares.

Cake heaven

It's impossible to walk past one of the four Pâtisserie des Rêves shops in Paris, and not be enticed in by the cakes displayed in the window under gleaming glass domes.

The selection of delicious pastries includes the artfully layered verrine, invented by owner, Philippe Conticini and served in a dessert glass. He is famous for giving traditional recipes a modern twist, so don’t miss the opportunity to try his take on old favourites.

Night at the Museum

The Palais de Tokyo has long been the city’s most fashionable late-night art institution, but new restaurant/bar, Les Grands Verres, is another incentive to come after dark.

The Mediterranean menu is veg-centric without being too virtuous: think flamed bonito with pesto-drenched summer squash. At the bar, cocktails and wine are served on tap to avoid bottle waste. How’s that for a genius idea?
