The Lille Christmas market is quite small compared to some of the better known ones in Europe, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in convenience.
Christmas time in Lille is absolutely perfect for a day trip, at under 1h30m from London St Pancras, you can hop on a train at a civilized time of the morning and be in Lille before lunch.
Lille is a foodie's delight with no shortage of good restaurants and food shops so you can keep your energy up for browsing the market and getting all your Christmas shopping done. Most of the main shopping streets are around the Grand Place, also known as Place du Général de Gaulle, so you won't have too far to wander.
The Lille Christmas market runs from November 22 - December 30 (check the Lille Tourism website before you plan as the dates can change).
The market is in the centre of town with around 90 stalls on Place Rihour, and the massive Christmas tree and Ferris wheel on nearby Grand Place, so it’s very compact and just 10 mins walk from the station.
You’ll have plenty of time to browse the market, take a ride on the big wheel for some fabulous aerial photos, indulge in some delicious food and get a good bit of your Christmas shopping done, all before you get on a train home.
