Saas Fee is a car free chocolate box resort in the Valais region of the Swiss Alps. Known as the 'Pearl of the Alps', this picturesque mountain village benefits from being traffic-free and the narrow streets lined with traditional Swiss chalets and cow sheds, making it a strong contender for the more expensive, nearby resort of Zermatt.

Saas Fee in the Swiss Alps

The slopes

With most of the slopes between 2,500-3,500m, Saas Fee is one of the most snow-sure resorts in Europe. The glacier means there is year-round skiing, however, unless you like ski touring, off-piste terrain can be limited. The pistes are largely for beginner and intermediate skiers making it ideal for families, and the 1,700m descent from Allalin down to the village is great for those looking for a long cruise from top to bottom.

The snow park

The snow park is one of Europe's best. Park shapers ensure there's something for everyone, including a world-class half pipe that sees some of the world's best snowboarders compete in at the Half Pipe World Cup. Beginners are also welcome and for those wanting to relax and soak up the action, there's a huge chill-out area filled with comfortable sofas, relaxing beach chairs and non-stop music.

If it's après you're after, there's a variety of lively bars at the bottom of the slopes and for those wishing to stay out later, Saas-Fee has a vibrant party scene with bars and clubs open till the early hours of the morning. There's a wide range of good places to eat out, ranging from traditional Swiss fare to pizzerias to Michelin star restaurants.
