Go beyond the guidebook trail with Eurostar’s ‘voice of a city’

21 Mar 2006

Eurostar, the high-speed train operator that links the UK with France and Belgium, today (21 March 2006) announced its support of a new blog: voiceofacity.com. Voice of a City is a forum for a diverse group of Parisian residents writing about their daily lives - from their favourite bars and restaurants to their musings on life in the French capital.
Voice of a City will become invaluable for travellers looking to go beyond the guidebook trail and discover a side of the city that visitors to Paris don't usually see.
The blog currently has seven Parisian 'Voices' recording their lives. Each Voice has been equipped with a digital camera to help chart their experiences and record the places they visit.
Visitors to the site can read the profiles of each Voice and then follow the unfolding life-story of the Voice whose interests are a close match to their own. Alternatively, travellers can simply browse the 'talking points' on the site, giving access to all the Voices' posts in certain categories (such as 'Shopping', 'Local Knowledge' and 'Eating and Drinking') to pick up relevant 'insider' suggestions and recommendations for their next visit to Paris. Travellers can also interact with the Voices by posting comments on the Voices blogs.
Voices on the site, chronicling their lives in Paris, include: After8, a 28 year old graphic designer, Anne, a 32 year old translator living in the 20th arrondissement, Salomée, an 18 year old art student living in Le Marais and PutYourFlareOn http://www.voiceofacity.com/paris/?p=145, an American ex-pat from Kansas now living in the heart of the 13th arrondissement. There's also King Negrito, a 23cm high leather teddy bear!
The Voices' current recommendations and insider tips, include a visit to the stunning metro station entrance at Palais Royal-Musée du Louvre and a trip to La Favela Chic - a Brazilian bar and restaurant near Place de la République.
Paris is the first Eurostar destination to appear on the Voice of a City blog. Eurostar is now on the hunt for new 'Voices' from its other destination cities (London, Lille and Brussels).
Louise Holah, Customer Communications Manager, Eurostar, said: "Eurostar takes you to the heart of London, Paris and Brussels and we believe that at the heart of every city are the people who live there. The Voice of a City blog will allow our travellers to get the most out of their visit to Paris by learning from the locals to discover the best bars, restaurants and cultural events across the city.
"Our experience tells us that travellers have the best experiences when they visit a foreign city where they have friends living - the aim of Voice of a City is that they feel this way when they visit Paris with the help of the 'Voices'."
