    The World Travel Awards were launched in 1993 to acknowledge and celebrate excellence in the world's travel and tourism industry.     Eurostar, the international high-speed passenger train operator, today announced it would be operating an extra 17 trains over Christmas and the New Year because of high demand.

    A 750-seat Eurostar train is broadly the equivalent of two jumbo jets. Already many services on key dates around the Christmas holiday period are nearly completely full.

    Eurostar today confirmed that 641,957 passengers travelled in October - a record carrying for the month. In the first 10 months of this year, 6,046,455 million passengers had travelled on Eurostar, up 16.2% on the same period last year (5,203,357).
