City of lights, city of love, fashion capital of the world, home of the finest restaurants: Paris is the perfect spot for a head-to-toe revamp. Got your mind set on a healthy but tasty diet? Fancy adding a dash of je ne sais quoi to your wardrobe? Trying to reinvent yourself as a sophisticated art lover? The French capital has you covered. From chic fashion (with an oh-so-2019 sustainable twist) to rediscovering the Paris of flâneurs, here are our resolutions for Parisians at heart.

5 New Year’s resolutions for wannabe Parisians

  • Eat your greens

Ready to green up your plate? Head to Veggietown, a meat-free haven of 35 restaurants in the 9th and 10th arrondissements. But there’s no need to renounce meat to clean up your act à la Française. Shop for produce at the marché and salvage delicious treats about to go to waste with Too Good To Go, an app that lets you buy leftovers from restaurants, bakeries and hotels for just a few euros.

  • Adopt the flâneur attitude

Ditch the métro, boulot, dodo (metro, work, sleep) routine. Instead, rediscover the laissez-faire spirit of the original flâneurs, who wandered on the Grands Boulevards. Paris’s sumptuous covered passages, like Galerie Vivienne, will transport you to the 19th century. In need of fresh air? Tour Bastille’s Coulée Verte, or explore the Petite Ceinture, an abandoned railway that used to encircle the capital.

  • Dress chic, but with a twist

Parisians never reveal their fashion secrets, but their dress code is well-known: monotone, well-cut garments must be effortlessly worn at all times. For unique, earth-conscious clothes, try the latest upcycling trend. Shop for chic designs made from recycled fabric at workshops like La Textilerie, La Recyclerie or at charity shop Emmaüs’ hipster boutique.

  • Get cultured

Queuing at Le Louvre is so passé. Get to know Paris’s smaller museums and step straight into the artists’ studios. Live a painter’s life at Musée Delacroix and admire sculpted masterpieces in the lovely gardens of the Musée Rodin. Peckish? Take your goûter among the roses of the greenhouse at the Musée de la Vie Romantique, which used to house the Society of the Arts and Literature.

  • We’ll always have day trips

Parisians are always dreaming of moving away. But crossing the traffic-dense périph’ or heading to the countryside can be a bit of an ordeal. Take a day drip instead. Pack a picnic and head to the Parc de Sceaux, where cherry blossoms rival Tokyo’s in the spring. Or make time for the gardens of Giverny, famous for inspiring Monet’s Water Lilies. You’ll be back in time for a well-earned dinner.
