Travelling with your bike on Eurostar

Travelling with a bike? Here are the options.

Bikes on Trains

If you're heading off to some beautiful cycling spots, you'll want to take your own bike along for the ride.

You'll find bike parking at most of our stations, except Paris Gare du Nord and Lille Europe. Find out more on how to get to Eurostar stations by bike.

On our trains to London, Paris, Lille and Brussels*, there are three ways to do it.

1. Fold it up

Bike bags up to 85cm long

If you've got a folding bike, you can carry it on board as part of your luggage allowance. That's as long as you can fold or dismantle your bike (with the saddle, handlebars and wheels removed) and place it in a bike bag. Your bike bag can be up to 85cm long. Any bike bags larger than this cannot be carried on board and you’ll need to register it to travel in the hold of the train. Here’s how.

* On our connecting Swiss ski train, you can take a bike in a bike bag up to 120cm long. There’s no charge for this, but the bike bag will count as part of your individual luggage allowance.

2. Use our registered luggage service on your travel day

Bike bags between 85cm and 120cm long

If you can fold or dismantle your bike and put it in a bike bag between 85cm and 120cm long, you can use our registered luggage service on the day, provided by EuroDespatch for just £10 each way from London and €15 from Paris, Lille or Brussels.

In most cases, your bike will travel on the same train as you. On the rare occasion that there’s no space left on that train, your bike will need to travel on the next train that has space for it.

To maximise the chances of your bike travelling on the same train as you, it’s best to arrive an hour before your train’s departure and head straight to the registered luggage office.

If you have any questions or concerns about this service, like an onward connection to make with your bike in tow, feel free to call EuroDespatch on +44 (0) 344 822 5822 , visit the EuroDespatch Centre at St Pancras International, or find out more here

Fully assembled bikes or larger bike bags

Fully assembled bikes or bike bags over 120cm long need to be sent through our registered luggage service. You can book this on the day for just £25 each way from London, €29 from Paris or €30 from Brussels. You’ll just need to show your Eurostar ticket or booking reference when you register. The charge is non-refundable but, subject to availability, the bike booking may be exchangeable before your departure date.

We’ll do all that we can to get your bike on the same train as you if there’s space and we always guarantee that it’ll be sent within 24 hours of your own booked departure.

To use our registered luggage service, you can either leave your bike at the excess luggage drop-off points next to Eurostar check-in or at our registered luggage office in London, Paris, Lille and Brussels.

3. Book a place for your bike on the train in advance

For total peace of mind, we have a guaranteed bike transfer service, where you can reserve a place for your bike or bike bag on the train you’re travelling on. This is available for bike bags and fully assembled bikes up to 2m long. To book a place in advance for a journey starting in London, Paris, Lille or Brussels, it costs £30 each way and you'll need to quote your Eurostar booking reference or show your ticket to make your reservation. This charge is non-refundable but, if there isn't enough luggage space in the hold on your train, you can change your bike booking to travel on another Eurostar train up to 48 hours before your booking.

To book in advance or find out more about this service, call us on +44 (0) 344 822 5822 , visit the EuroDespatch Centre at St Pancras International, or find out more here

Onward connections: taking your bike beyond Paris, Lille, Brussels and London

On our seasonal direct services to Avignon and the French Alps, we don’t have a registered luggage service. On these trains, bike bags between 85cm and 120cm at their longest can be carried on board as part of your individual luggage allowance. Your bike just has to be dismantled or folded in a suitable bike bag, with the saddle, handlebars and wheels removed.

If your trip involves a Eurostar journey and a connecting train with another train company, these requirements only apply to the Eurostar part of your trip. It might be helpful to know that most other train companies accept bikes on board in bike bags of 90cm x 120cm.

If your bike bag is bigger than this or it can’t be dismantled or folded, it’s best to check with the other train company before you book.

Here’s a summary of your options:

Travelling with your bike in July?

Le Tour de France is one of the busiest times in the Eurostar calendar, and this July is no exception. So, to make sure that your bike travels on the same train as you during July, you'll need to book a space for it with our registered luggage service. If you'd prefer not to pre-book, just keep in mind that we can't guarantee when your bike will arrive at your destination, because we'll have to wait for a train that has enough space for it.
