Connecting via Gare Montparnasse

That's where you'll find your connecting station, train numbers and information on connecting stations. Just to let you know, all the times listed are local times.
You can either take the Métro (underground) or a taxi to get from Gare du Nord to Gare Montparnasse.
If you are travelling with heavy luggage it is recommended to travel by taxi.
In the know
- Métro tickets won't be included in your journey. You can buy Parisian Métro or RER(suburban trains) tickets in packs of 10, called carnet, at Eurostar terminals and onboard Eurostar trains or at one of the ticket desks or self service ticket machines in all Métro/RER stations (like Gare du Nord). If you're making a return journey, you can buy your return tickets at the same time, since Métro and RER tickets can be used on any day.
- Keep hold of your Métro tickets – you might need them to exit the station when you arrive.
Paris Gare du Nord to Gare Montparnasse
The journey from Paris Gare du Nord to Gare Montparnasse usually takes around 40 minutes, depending on how busy the Métro is.
When you arrive in Paris Gare du Nord, walk towards the front of your Eurostar train and exit to the main station concourse. The Métro entrances are on your left – look up and follow the signs for Métro Line 4 – M4.

From Gare du Nord, take the Métro Line 4 straight to Montparnasse Bienvenüe (follow signs marked M4 direction Mairie de Montrouge (Porte d'Orléans)). There are several Métro stops between Gare du Nord and Gare Montparnasse, and you'll see the exact number of stops and their names above each exit door on the train.
Once you're in Montparnasse Bienvenüe métro station, look up for signs saying either Trains SNCF, Gare Montparnasse - Train station or Trains Grandes Lignes. Follow the signs you'll see some stairs and a travelator to get from Montparnasse Bienvenüe to Gare Montparnasse railway station.
As you leave the Montparnasse Bienvenüe Métro station, follow the Grandes Lignes (mainline trains) sign to get to the Montparnasse railway station. To find out what platform to go to, follow the Accès aux trains signs and check the departure boards.
The journey from Paris Gare du Nord to Gare Montparnasse usually takes around 35 minutes, depending on traffic. There might also be a long queue for taxis during busy periods.
When you arrive at Gare du Nord, walk towards the front of your Eurostar train and then turn right. Follow the Taxis sign, exit the station and you'll find the taxi rank right there. The drop off area in Gare Montparnasse is close to main station concourse. When you arrive at Gare Montparnasse, follow the Accès aux trains sign to get to the platforms.
Once you're in Gare Montparnasse, look for your train number and departure time on the station departure boards. Remember, your destination might not be the final destination of your train, so be sure to check where it's stopping on the way.
If you have a little time to spend in Gare Montparnasse before your train leaves, you'll find a departure lounge and plenty of shops and cafés to while away the wait.
Things to remember before boarding
- Remember to validate (composter in French) your tickets in the yellow machines on the platform or main station concourse before boarding the TGV/InterCity train
- Before boarding your TGV/InterCity train, follow the sign saying composition des trains on the platform to find your carriage
- There's no check-in time for TGV/InterCity trains, so you can just hop on and find a seat
Gare Montparnasse to Gare du Nord
The journey from Paris Gare d'Austerlitz to Gare Montparnasse usually takes around 40 minutes, depending on how busy the Métro is.
When you arrive in Gare Montparnasse, walk towards the front of the train to the main station concourse and follow the M Métro (underground) signs for Montparnasse Bienvenüe Métro station. From there, follow the signs for Metro line 4 - M4 (towards direction Porte de Clignancourt) to Gare du Nord. You'll find some stairs and a travelator between Gare Montparnasse and Montparnasse Bienvenüe Métro station.
Once in Gare du Nord Métro station, follow the signs for Trains Grandes Lignes towards the main Gare du Nord station concourse and then follow the signs for Eurostar Departures for check-in. You'll need to allow at least 30 minutes to check in for your Eurostar train, or 10 minutes if you're in Business Premier.
The journey from Paris Gare du Nord to Gare Montparnasse usually takes around 35 minutes, depending on traffic. When you arrive in Gare Montparnasse station, walk towards the front of your train, turn left and follow the Taxis sign. Follow the arrows until you get to the dedicated taxi area, marked Taxis – Prise en charge des voyageurs.
Once you're in Gare du Nord, follow the signs for Eurostar Departures for check-in. You'll need to allow at least 30 minutes to check in for your Eurostar train, or 10 minutes if you're in Business Premier.
Just to let you know, all the information here is subject to change, so it's a good idea to double check the departure boards when you get to the stations.
