Tignes

Character-free, snow-laden. If it’s adventure you’re after, this is the place to be. Plenty of off-piste runs, lots of boarding and breathtaking descents. If you want Alpine charm and après ski activities, go to Val.
Not to be missed
At the bottom of La Grande Motte glacier you’ll find the Tour de Pramecou, a favourite off-piste route for skiers of all abilities.
One for the train
The funicular from Val-Claret takes seven minutes to get you to the top of La Grande Motte –with a capacity of over 3,000 passengers an hour.
Off the piste
Le Panoramic at the foot of the glacier might be a little overpriced, but the spectacular views make it worth the expense.
Top money tip
The Snowspace pass lets you try out your snowboarding skills, with access to 20 lifts in the southern part of the park, complete with jumps, a halfpipe and a freestyle zone, all for Euro27.50 a day.
Best avoided
If you’re looking for woodland trails, this bleak, treeless setting isn’t for you.
