Les Arcs

Families, intermediates and boarders abound. There’s loads of long-descents and the link with La Plagne provides even more choice. A functional, purpose-built resort, ideal for mixed-ability groups – and it won’t cost the earth, either.
Not to be missed
From Aiguille Rouge, ski all the way down to the hamlet of Le Pré – descending over 2,000m, the run is over four miles long.
One for the train
Les Arcs calls itself the home of the snowboard, with local boy Regis Rolland playing a big part in popularising the sport – not least with his Apocalypse Snow movies.
Off the piste
Of the mountain restaurants, the pick is Chalets de l'Arc, built in traditional wood and stone and serving good French food – it’s located above Arc 2000 towards Col de la Chal.
Top money tip
If you’re thinking of buying ski equipment, take the funicular back to Bourg-St-Maurice, where the prices are cheaper.
Best avoided
If you're looking for Alpine charm, look elsewhere.
