La Plagne

It might be plug-ugly, but this is an intermediate’s paradise. Plentiful off-piste, extensive purples and reliable snow. And the link with Les Arcs – the Paradiski area – makes it even more attractive.
Not to be missed
If it’s open, take the top chair on the Bellecote glacier for excellent snow and stunning views – and a 2,000m descent from the glacier to Montchavin, with a not-difficult off-piste stretch in the middle.
One for the train
The resort consists of ten separate villages, six of which are purpose-built on or above the tree line, while the other four are scattered around outside the bowl.
Off the piste
Have a go on the floodlight 1992 Winter Olympics bob-sleigh run, with a drop of 125m and 19 bends – well worth the money to scare yourself silly.
Top money tip
Lift tickets bought for six days or more permit you to one day skiing in Val d’Isère, Tignes, Les Trois Vallées or Les Arcs.
Best avoided
Pistes can get overcrowded at times – so choose your dates with care.
