Val Thorens and Les Menuires

Val Thorens & Les Menuires

Les Menuires is low on glitz and high on family-orientated fun. It is poplular with boarding enthusiasts, but has enough exciting pistes for all skiers. The abundance of blue runs is appealing to beginners and those who want to take it easy.

As the highest ski resort in the French Alps, at 2,300m, Val Thorens is more often than not blessed with a long and snow-filled season. Although the resort itself is sun-soaked, many of
its slopes face north and north-west, meaning less rays and more serious-minded skiers
who don’t mind missing out on a tan in return for challenging pistes. And as part of the
Three Valleys it has access to 100s of kilometres of runs throughout the region.

One for the train
Val Thorens has one of the biggest lifts and the enormous Funitel de Pecelet gondola
has a capacity of 3000 people per hour.
At Les Menuires, Pointe de la Masse is a staggering 2805 m high.

Off the piste
Val Thorens is a lively resort with plenty of nightlife. Top recommended places are
the Ski Rock Café, Bloopers and The Viking are the top picks. Popular après-ski hangouts
at Les Menuires are The Challenge and La Mousse bars.

Top money tip
Vallee de Belleville pass covers 75 lifts and 300km piste in Val Thorens, Les Menuires
and St Martin.

The three Valleys lift pass will also give you a day in Val D’Isere/Tignes, La Plagne
or Les Arcs.

Best avoided
For Val Thorens, it’s worth heading out early to avoid the queues– particularly for the
Cime de Caron cable car – and then after a couple of runs head on elsewhere.
For Les Menuires, an early start is advised as the resort is sun-facing and slopes can get icy early on, despite having many snow cannons.
