The Palais des Beaux-Arts of Lille, France's second most important museum thanks to the wealth and diversity of its collections is a characteristic 19th-century building in the heart of the city. It houses a collection of Antiquities, mediaeval and Renaissance collections, collections of European painting and French sculpture, decorative objets d'art, raised relief maps, a collection of numismatics, graphic art and photography.

La Piscine Museum of Art and Industry André Diligent, open since 2001, has been established on the site of the former municipal swimming pool, an amazing art deco edifice. Built in 1932, and once called "the most beautiful swimming pool in France", this building is today part of the 20th century's architectural heritage. Discover exceptional collections built up around the concept of arts applied to industry: paintings, sculptures, ceramics and fabrics from the 19th and 20th century, and prestigious names: Ingres, Gerôme, Rodin, Carpeaux, Claudel, Bernard, Bonnard, Dufy, Picasso, Pompon, Starck.

Since 1992, the Museum has been a place to experiment art works, establishing a dialogue, with stylistic and thematic encounters, between contemporary art and the art of former centuries, but also between performing arts and visual arts, while frequently renewing its displays. Since 2009, Tourcoing Fine arts Museum has become a reference for the works of painter Eugène Leroy (1910-2000), thanks to an important donation.

Le Fresnoy, opened in 1997, is based in a building renovated by the French-American architect Bernard Tschumi. Throughout the year the public is able to discover important exhibitions of contemporary art (Bill Viola, Michael Snow, Scanner, Charles Sandison, Claudio Parmiggiani, Giuseppe Penone, James Turrell,…), films, concerts, performances, lectures... Le Fresnoy is also a centre of advanced artistic, audio-visual and multi-media training for post-graduate students. The main aim is to enable young artists to make works with professional technical equipment, under the guidance of recognised artists, in a multi-disciplinary spirit. These works are presented in July each year in the Panorama event.
