Held every year on the first Sunday of October, le Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (often referred to as simply “The Arc”) has a purse of over 4 million euro and is the last of the four annual “Classic” horse races. It’s a real highlight of the French racing calendar, attracting some of the top thoroughbreds from around the globe, so it’s the perfect opportunity to dust down that expensive hat and quaff champagne with the great and the good.
A truly international event
Every year Le Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe attracts around 70,000 people from all over the world, gaining hours and hours of television coverage and attracting around a billion spectators from across 200 countries.
To experience Le Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in all its glory though you simply can’t beat attending it yourself, at the world renowned Hippodrome de Longchamp in Paris’ Bois du Boulogne. Built on the banks of the Seine, this impressive racecourse is known for its assortment of interlaced tracks which offer a variety of courses and present a real challenge to competing horses and riders.
So, how do I get there?
Of course, you could get into the spirit of things by hopping on your finest thoroughbred and heading off into the sunset in pursuit of grand glory and stupendous spoils. But then again, if you don’t want to get your race day finery all messed up you might want to consider a slightly more refined method of transport. And what could be more sophisticated (not to mention easy) than hopping on the Eurostar and stepping out in the very heart of Paris, ready to make your mark on the French racing world (or maybe just indulge in a little flutter)?
