Les Arcs

Said to be the ‘home of snowboard’,
Les Arcs is a classic French resort with varied terrains and a good mixture of high slopes and low-level woodland runs. Les Arcs is famous for its speed-skiing track above Arc 2000, the setting over the years for a number of world records.

Les Arcs is ideal for families, intermediates and boarders abound. Whether you choose
Les Arcs 2000, 1950, 1800 or 1650, there’s loads of long-descents and the link with La Plagne provides even more choice. A functional, purpose-built resort, ideal for mixed-ability groups – and it won’t cost the earth either, making it a ski holiday to remember.

Not to be missed
From Aiguille Rouge, ski all the way down to the hamlet of Le Pré – descending over 2,000m, the run is over four miles long.

One for the train
Les Arcs calls itself the home of the snowboard, with local boy Regis Rolland playing a big part in popularising the sport – not least with his Apocalypse Snow movies.

Off the piste
Of the mountain restaurants, the pick is Chalets de l'Arc, built in traditional wood and stone and serving good French food – it’s located above Arc 2000 towards Col de la Chal.

Top money tip
If you’re thinking of buying ski equipment, take the funicular back to Bourg-St-Maurice,
where the prices are cheaper.

Best avoided
If your idea of a ski holiday includes Alpine charm, look elsewhere.
