Lyon city breaks

A Lyon city break offers visitors a variety of cultural and historical delights and our new ‘through-ticket’ makes it simple for Eurostar customers to discover France’s second largest city.
Lyon city break attractions
Immerse yourself in Lyon’s rich heritage by taking a cable car ride to the heights of the colline de Fourvière, to enjoy stunning views across the city. Once you have reached the summit, wander from the stunning Basilica to the Roman Amphitheatre, and you will soon see why Lyon has been named a UNESCO heritage site and why a city break to Lyon is not to be missed. The Renaissance quarter, le Vieux Lyon, offers its visitors an array of amazing architecture. From the beautiful cobbled streets and magnificent courtyards, stroll across the passerelle du Palais de Justice, which links le vieux Lyon to the celebrated Presqu’île. Here, you will find the superb museé des Beaux Arts for a moment of peaceful reflection before heading down to the Carré d’Or, famous for designer fashion.
Food on your Lyon city break
Lyon deserves its reputation as culinary capital of France. A city break to Lyon boasts more than 1,000 restaurants and intimate bouchons, a type of eatery specific to the area, serving traditional Lyonnais dishes such as coq au vin and boudin (sausages served with apples). For a soirée with a difference, try the Bateau Hermès for a boat trip along the river Saône and a gourmet meal on board. Enjoy superb views of the city and seasonal delicacies from one of Hermès’ three-course menus.
Filmmaking history on your Lyon city break
Movie pioneers the Lumière brothers hailed from Lyon. A city break visit to Lyon would not be complete without a trip to the Institut Lumière, which combines a cinema showing a variety of old and unusual films, and a museum showcasing the fascinating history of filmmaking from its origins to the present day.
My Lyon
Lyon born and bred, Nathalie Vial is a General Sales Manager for Eurostar. Read her tips below to take away on your Lyon city break.
The area between la place Bellecour and la place des Jacobins is great for traditional dishes.
In the daytime, I like to walk along the bank of the river Rhône – there's plenty of lovely bars & cafés.
I love salsa, and Mi Barrio near the hôtel de ville is one of my favourite places to practice.
Museum-wise, there is a lot of choice; my favourite is the Silk Museum.
