Over 140,000 Passengers Travel On Eurostar Over The August Bank Holiday Weekend
* Potential RMT Strike by some Chubb security officers will not disrupt travellers or services
Eurostar expects to carry a record number of travellers over the August Bank Holiday weekend, with over 140,000 people taking journeys between the UK, France or Belgium.
Eurostar is laying on 10 extra services, or another 7,500 seats, to cope with the demand.
The move comes despite a potential strike by some members of the RMT union who work for the security company Chubb. The RMT have called for two separate strikes, each for 3 hours, on the afternoon of Friday 26th August and the morning of Saturday 27th August. The RMT have been calling for recognition of the union by Chubb management, which Chubb has agreed to. Eurostar now understands that the RMT have raised other issues.
Eurostar expects no impact on its services and says travellers should check-in as normal.
Eurostar's Communications Director, Paul Charles, commented: "If this strike goes ahead travellers will question why unions often seek to disrupt their hard-earned August holidays. Our travellers can rest assured that services will operate as normal and that it's business as usual for Eurostar."
Eurostar understands that the management of Chubb are due to meet RMT officials this Monday for further talks.
