As well as all the usual tourist attractions there are plenty of special events and festivals happening throughout June, so read on to discover some amazing attractions and things to do.
Shakespeare's Globe
A visit to Shakespeare's Globe is one of the best summer experiences in London. The Globe Theatre is a faithful reconstruction of the open-air playhouse first built in 1599, where Shakespeare worked and for which he wrote many of his greatest plays. The theatre season runs from April to October with productions of works by Shakespeare and modern playwrights, and plays to an audience of 350,000 who experience the ‘wooden O’, sitting in a gallery or standing as a groundling in the yard, just as they would have done 400 years ago. Shakespeare's Globe is best accessed on foot. There are excellent footpaths along the river from Waterloo and from Southwark Bridge. The Millennium Footbridge is 50 metres from the theatre.
London Walks
Want to discover London, enjoy the lovely spring weather and be active at the same time? A guided walking tour offers all that and is by far the best way to see London. London Walks is London's award-winning (Best Tourism Experience Gold Award), original, walking tour company. Their truly experienced guides will take you and your fellow walkers on a themed tour, be it Shakespeare’s London, The Forbidden City or The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour. It’s flexible and convenient, there are walks on every day of the week, and there’s no need to book in advance. Simply turn up at the designated starting point at the time stated. London Walks start just outside the exits of tube stations and in case the weather is not cooperating, you can always change your mind and hop back on the underground.
Parks
Spending time in London doesn't have to mean forfeiting fresh air, nature and wildlife; the big smoke has plenty of green and open spaces. In fact, London is one the greenest capital cities in the world, with over 600 garden squares, 148 parks and gardens, 122 heaths, commons and greens, 16 city farms, 8 Royal Parks and even 1 historic battlefield (in Barnet). Retreat from the capital's hustle and bustle and take a wander through a lush London park.
