Strategic Projects

The Strategic Projects department is responsible for the development of new UK rail-related projects with the aim of looking ahead and continually improving the contribution of the rail part of the UK business.

Strategic Projects also represents the company at various government agencies, railway companies, stakeholder groups etc., for example: Network Rail, Department for Transport, the Office of Rail Regulation, Transport for London and London TravelWatch (formerly the London Transport Users' Committee).

A bi-annual report is presented to London TravelWatch detailing service statistics, customer satisfaction information and punctuality comparisons with competing airlines.

The department established and runs the Eurostar Design Authority, held every two weeks, where potential projects and business cases are reviewed prior to presentation to the Eurostar Management Group. It comprises a group of senior managers from a wide range of backgrounds within Eurostar. The key objectives are to ensure compliance with the commercial and strategic vision of the company, to confirm that project outputs meet benefits presented and to act as a consultation group.

Currently we are involved in the lease / purchase of two locomotives on behalf of CTRL (UK) to work on the completed Channel Tunnel Rail Link for rescue and recovery of Eurostar trains.

The agreements concerning the handing over of Waterloo International and North Pole International to their future owners and the corresponding rail access rights also currently have our involvement.

Prior to the introduction of a CTRL dedicated project team Strategic Projects were closely involved in all aspects of the specification of major assets including St. Pancras International and the new depot at Temple Mills in East London.
