Really moving: 14 November 2007

St Pancras International promises to be a magnificent new home for Eurostar, heralding an exciting new era for short-haul travel, so we’d like to share some of the highlights of the move with you.
These are our main projects for the coming year and beyond:
1. A new location and a London landmark
St Pancras International will be central to the development and growth of a revitalised and vibrant part of London.
- It’s excellently located in central London.
- It's linked to 6 Tube lines (Circle, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan, Northern, Piccadilly and Victoria).
- There are 7 main line services, leaving from St Pancras International, King’s Cross and nearby Euston.
2. St Pancras International: A destination station
The station will be a place for people to visit even if they don’t have a train to catch.
- St Pancras International is a Grade 1 listed building; first opened in 1868, it has been lovingly restored retaining many of its original features.
- After a multi-million pound refurbishment, this Victorian masterpiece will reopen with boutique arcade shopping, a daily farmers’ market selling fresh produce, a world class brasserie and Europe’s longest champagne bar.
3. International connections: new journey times.
From 14 November 2007, Eurostar will provide a faster way to the UK, here’s why:
- The UK’s first high-speed line – High Speed 1 – from the Channel Tunnel and all the way to St Pancras International. This will allow Eurostar to travel at high speed all the way to central London, cutting journey times by at least 20 minutes.
New journey times:
Brussels – St Pancras International 1h51 (was 2h15)
Lille – St Pancras International 1h20 (was 1h40)
Paris – St Pancras International 2h15 (was 2h35)
4. Ebbsfleet International – our brand new station
This new Kent station will provide complementary services to those arriving and departing from Ashford International.
- Ebbsfleet International opens on 19 November 2007. This brand new, state-of-the-art station will help Ashford International serve Kent and the South East for both leisure and business travel. It is ideally located for travellers connecting to national or international flights from London Gatwick or London Heathrow.
Journey times:
Brussels – Ebbsfleet International 1h40
Lille - Ebbsfleet International 1h10
Paris - Ebbsfleet International 2h05
5. Ashford International
- From 19 November 2007, Eurostar services will no longer go direct from Brussels to Ashford. You can travel on to Ashford with a simple platform change at Lille.
- For Uk travellers there will be three trains a day to Paris along with the daily direct Eurostar to Disneyland (Stopping at Lille for a connection to Brussels).
- Ashford will also continue to be served by the weekly Avignon trains (summer only), and the weekly day and night ski trains (winter only).
6. Tread Lightly with Eurostar
Independent research has already proved that a Eurostar journey releases 10 times less CO2 emissions than flying to our destinations. Now we want to work on becoming greener still, so we have recently announced our Tread Lightly initiative which will greatly reduce our impact on the environment. In it we focus on three things:
- Cutting our carbon dioxide emissions by 25% by 2012.
- From 14 November 2007, offsetting any remaining emissions to offer carbon neutral journeys, at no cost to the traveller.
- Sticking to a ten-point plan to make major changes across all areas of our business; such as increasing energy efficiency, introducing paperless ticketing, looking at waste management and recycling in our offices.
